Something on the horizon is churning.
1
A Hard Rain: Maybe it's the state of the world, but something about this rain sits heavy with you. All creatures suffer penalties to wisdom and constitution checks as they attempt to bear the burden of it all.
2
Mist of Dreams: A light mist fills the air in diaphanous pleats which catch the sunlight like sparkling fabric. Exposed creatures may find that they have trouble distinguishing reality from dreams. Hallucinations abound.
3
Ashen Wind: The sky turns orange while ash and embers blow in from far off fires. Breathing in this noxious air reduces 1d4 max HP per hour.
4
Hell Hale: Sharp-edged black hailstones tumble from the skies. They bounce off the ground after impact, causing a confusing calamity of careening clods of ice. Creatures stuck in the hailstorm suffer 1d8 damage per round as they are persistently pummeled.
5
Unfair Rain: A rainstorm blows through which randomly phases into and out of corporeality. As such, the rain can pass through roofs and shelters, soaking everything regardless of how weather-proof it might appear. It really isn't fair.
6
Shower of Mud: By some strange atmospheric occurrence, midair dust has merged with falling rain to create a shower of mud which coats everything. As mud coats everyone's faces, their perception is decreased. But their slippery coating makes them harder to hit.
7
A Great Wave: A tidal wave crashes into the nearby shoreline. The scale is variable, either soaking a seaside town and toppling small vessels or causing catastrophic consequences for an entire kingdom.
8
Echo Storm: The air sings with a crackling fury. Quiet sounds are made deafening and loud sounds physically damaging. Sneaking is made impossible by the amplification of all sound, while a thunderclap might kill.
9
A Broiling Quake: The ground shifts and ripples slowly for hours as a terrific earthquake builds. Those not accustomed to life on the high seas are likely to feel sea-sick and be penalized in their abilities. The quake eventually builds to a crescendo and destroys a massive nearby building or village.
10
Black Rainbow: Looming on the horizon is a massive arc which appears to be cut out from the sky itself. The two ends of the rainbow are miles apart. One terminates at a great treasure, while the other marks the location of a merciless magical beast. Both only exist only while the rainbow remains in the sky, unless killed or collected.
11
Gilded Rain: Glowing, golden raindrops fall from the sky, illuminating the near-black thunderclouds they tumble through. Creatures struck by the glowing rain are healed and cured of disease. Battles fought beneath this rain are interminable, as dying soldiers are perpetually healed.
12
Toxic Dew: In the morning, a pearlescent dew has settled upon the ground. Exposure makes it feel like worms are crawling around beneath your skin. It permanently dyes clothing and hair and can poison all creatures for multiple days.
13
A Storm of Beetles: A plague of bloodthirsty beetles swarms the land. While they do not attack uninjured creatures, they will immediately swarm anyone or anything which is bleeding and attempt to force themselves inside of their bodies for a fatal feast.
14
Planetary Flux: Passing celestial bodies distort the world's gravity. Roll a d4 to see whether the gravity is 0.25x, .5x, 2x, or 4x its normal pull. Jump distances, carry weight, attacks, and all related skills are effected. Long periods of increased gravity are likely to cause exhaustion.
15
A Mighty Wind: Terrific winds blast from all around. Wild gusts are common. Upon the DM's discretion, roll a D8 to determine the direction of the wind. A creature failing a strength saving throw is throw 20 feet in that direction. The damage they take depends upon what they're thrown into.
16
White White Snow: Thick sheets of snow fall all around, regardless of the time of year. In this blinding blizzard, all sound is muffled. Nothing can be heard at a distance greater than 10 feet. Little can be seen beyond that.
17
Aurora of Madness: The sky is filled with a gorgeous aurora of swirling colors. The celestial display is intoxicating and irresistible. Creatures find that they are drawn to it, believing it will provide answers to their deepest questions. Instead, those who stare into it long enough are made temporarily blind or mad.
18
Fog of Creeping Death: A black fog crawls low along the ground. It is mostly harmless so long as you don't breathe it. But as it rises or you fall into it, it can cause asphyxiation and death.
19
A Beautiful Day: The day seems eerily pleasant. Butterflies flitter over green grass as birds soar overhead. A cool wind cuts through warm air. The sky contains puffy white clouds which only briefly interrupt the sun's subtle rays. Everyone is put into an unusually positive mood, regardless of their background or alignment.
20
Slick Sleet: A freezing rain blankets the land in an unusually icy surface. It becomes wildly difficult to run, or to hold onto anything or anyone. Your best bet might be to let go of your things and slide on your belly like a penguin.
